Classroom Simulator Instruction

Classroom and Simulator Instruction

Before starting in-car Instruction, every new driver must complete the Classroom / S
imulator Program in the Freedom to Drive Blue Quill Driver Training Centre. The only exception is the Basic Package that omits simulators.

After completing the program, the students will have gained a wealth of knowledge and will have developed confidence even before going out onto the streets of Edmonton.

The 15 hour classroom closely follows the Alberta Transportation driver-training curriculum, with an emphasis on the development of lifelong safe driving habits. This highly effective program delivers essential practical information and nurtures a mature and responsible attitude toward driving. The Driving Coach (or Parent) Class is included as part of the 15 hour classroom. The classroom program must be satisfactorily completed as part of the requirement to earn the insurance certificate.

The intensive 3 hour simulator program provides a solid foundation in the basics of driving while introducing proactive and safe driving strategies.  The program also includes the crucial skills of scanning, steering control, blind spot awareness, and more advanced skills such as threat recognition and collision avoidance.

The Classroom / Simulator Program is completed either in 2 weekends or in 6 weekday evenings over 2-3 weeks.

WEEKENDS

Weekend mornings consist of Driving Coach Class, Simulator Class, or Special Topics Classes. Morning sessions are 3 hours in duration, going from 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon.

Weekend afternoons consist of three Lecture Topics 1(a+b), 2(a+b), or 3(a+b). Afternoon sessions are 4 hours in duration, going from 12:45 - 4:45 PM.

EVENINGS

Evening classes consist of Lecture Topics 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b and Driving Coach Class which go from 7:00 - 9:30 PM.  Simulator and Special Topics classes go from 7:00 – 10:00 PM.

Driving Coach Class is a special session where driving coaches attend with the students.  This class updates the coaches by covering the latest developments in driving and by providing ideas on how to get the most out of each practice session.

The simulator class effectively introduces students to a variety of essential skills in a true-to-life simulated driver’s seat. We also offer special classes in the simulator room, such as Winter Driving Tips.  The simulator class is limited to 8 students per session.

Classroom and Simulator sessions may be taken in any order.
